short sleeve’s (safety), bring a sack lunch (we discuss turning topics), and wear some form of
eye protection (regular glasses are fine.)

TOPICS COVERED: Experience a fun and rewarding way to learn the simple pleasures of wood turning.
Unlike many other woodworking projects, handsome turned wooden bowls can be made in a short amount
of time and prove both artful and functional.

This two-day class is designed to give you the knowledge and skills to turn a bowl from a block of wood.

Topics covered are: lathe and tool safety; how to obtain and prepare wood blanks; tool selection; sharpening;

various methods for mounting the blank on the lathe; how to push cut, pull cut, and shear (angel hair) cut with

the bowl gouge; sanding (power and hand) and finishing options.

The first day is focused on learning the cuts and how to manipulate the bowl blank on the lathe. The second day

is independently (with some guidance) making your bowl from start to finish. The long-grind bowl gouge cuts can

be so clean that sanding usually begins with 120 or 180 grit sandpaper.
